The Community of Hemet
Located at the foot of the San Jacinto Mountains
and surrounded by foothills, the Valley offers a unique climate
year round. Its close proximity to the I10 fwy and I215 Make this
an excellent choice for home or business. Just about an hours drive
or less to Orange, LA, or San Diego Counties. Hemet is located
in Riverside County.
Hemet is situated about 35 miles southeast of
Riverside, and approximately 15 miles east of Interstate 215 at
the base of the San Jacinto
Mountains. Hemet was first inhabited by the Cahuilla Indian tribe
and became "Rancho San Jacinto", a cattle ranch for
Mission San Luis Rey. Hemet was incorporated in 1910 and was
basically
an agricultural community, growing citrus, peaches, apricots,
olives and walnuts.
Hemet has a population of 61,497, and has become
a community of younger families, due in large part to the construction
of
new,
entry-level homes and their sale to young families. The families
are served by two school districts, which serve Hemet and the
greater Hemet area. They are the Hemet Unified School District
(HUSD),
serving all but a small portion of the City and San Jacinto Unified
School District (SJUSD).
Almost one third of homes in the area are mobile
homes, most within mobile home parks. For a mobile home, sale prices
range
from $61,000
to over $200,000. However, there are new sub-divisions being
built that consist of traditionally built homes, and they range
from
$400,000 on up, depending on whether the home has a mountain
view, or a pool and spa, or is located near water. Rentals for
one and
two bedroom apartments are approximately $400- $575 per month.
Rentals for three and four bedroom houses range from $575 to
$800 per month.
A significant part of the population commuting
up to 2 hours one way to outlying areas including Orange and San
Diego Counties,
Temecula, Riverside and San Bernardino.
Shopping facilities are strategically located
throughout the city, dominated by the Hemet Valley Mall in the
Northwest section
of
the city, plus Home Depot, The Target shopping center and Wal-Mart
located in the same area. Neighborhood shopping anchored by major
grocery stores are located in southeast, south, central and west
Hemet. Sprinkled throughout the city are a wide variety of traditional
stores and restaurants servicing the community. The main streets
running north and south are Florida and Stetson Avenues, and
those running east and west are Sanderson, State, and San Jacinto.
The city is off the beaten path, and while it
isn't totally "life
in the slow lane", life is much more relaxed than that of
our more "metropolitan" neighbors. Hemet is a friendly
town and an easy area to move around in.
