The Community of Fallbrook

Fallbrook is nestled in the Northwest corner of San Diego County in Southern California. Fallbrook is just a 5 minute drive to the 15 (major north-south Interstate 15) to the east and about a 35 to 50 minute drive to the 5 (Interstate 5) to the West. San Diego is about an hour drive to the south on the 15. The central area of Orange County is about an hour and fifteen minute drive.

Fallbrook began in the area known today as Live Oak County Park. The first permanent recorded settlement was in 1869. The present town site was plotted in 1885. The original Fallbrook School, though closed as a school in 1939, still serves the community as a Clubhouse.

Fallbrook maintains an easy lifestyle and retains its Village atmosphere. The climate is ideal year-round, with pleasant summers and mild winters. The average year-round temperature is 61 degrees. With prevailing ocean breezes, the humidity is relatively low and constant.

The average day time high in Fallbrook is 76 degrees, with the warmest summer temperatures rarely reaching 90 degrees. During the coldest periods the average night time temperature is about 42 degrees. Annual average rainfall is 16 inches and comes mostly between in the late fall through early spring.

Fallbrook has 4 golf courses located in the hills within a 10-mile radius of the town center and 6 more within a 20 minute drive. Hiking, walking & cycling through the winding hillside are favorite activities of local residents.

The majority of Fallbrook residences are custom homes on acreage offering a quiet, country lifestyle. Fine dining, the beach, major mall shopping and other cosmopolitan pursuits are only a 25 minute drive away. The City of San Diego and all its attractions is about a 55 minute drive. Fallbrook's primary business is agriculture. Known as the Avocado Capital of the World, it has been a primary avocado growing area since the fruit was first planted locally in 1912. Annual revenues from avocados alone reach approximately $26 million, earned mostly on small groves of two to ten acres.

Main Street has preserved a turn-of-the-century charm with many of the commercial buildings dating to the late 1800's. Retail trade is supplemented by seven shopping centers in and in neighboring Bonsall. Much of Main Street will remind you of where grandma and grandpa lived back East or in the Midwest. The wooden buildings, many of which are historical, with unique fronts, are but a small part of the charm of Fallbrook. Art, gifts, antiques, jewelry and hand-made items abound in the area.
